That was an incredible trip, and yes, there is a lot of habitat to explore and Mount Graham should always be included. And the freaking Anhinga should always be included too :DTommy DeBardelebenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14927348437153499516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411028619066528288.post-78219202568931501602014-08-27T16:27:59.120-07:002014-08-27T16:27:59.120-07:00Don't know what to say, I am kind of speechles...Don't know what to say, I am kind of speechless after reading your post and seeing all your great photos! It was an incredible trip and would do it all over again. Thanks to you I added 37 new birds to my Graham County list! Still a lot of habitat to explore in that county, but any trip to the county almost has to include the trip up on Mount Graham in the future as well!Gordonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13931448617460317916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411028619066528288.post-69522336386561099592014-08-26T22:22:38.636-07:002014-08-26T22:22:38.636-07:00Thanks Josh!

Some counties are probably so hard to get that many in.

Thanks for the the picture compliments, I had to work hard and then not so hard for them.

I think you can definitely get in a photo with a Great Gray Owl, they would probably be very tolerant of anybody just like the Spotted Owl. Spotted Owls are quite the habitat specialists, they are picky about liking shady forested drainages and canyons, which is where we had these ones.

The Anhinga would've been a once a century type of bird. Maybe the guy saw a cormorant who rolled around in white chalk? Probably not, I'm just a bit sour about the whole thing!Tommy DeBardelebenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14927348437153499516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411028619066528288.post-60248397185514770812014-08-26T22:17:54.084-07:002014-08-26T22:17:54.084-07:00Thanks Metis Birding! Firs...I have so many comments on this great post -

First, only 15 counties?! That's crazy since MN has 87. We have birders that are county listers regularly traveling to all 87 pushing 200 species/county.

Second, you have some amazing shots here, especially of the Swainson's, the SPOW, and the junco.

Third, very cool about you guys knowing what habitats to search for those SPOW and then finding so many! My goal is to get a photo of me with a Great Gray this winter.

Fourth, so sorry you missed the Anhinga. What a sighting that would have been for you.Josh Wallestadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12547530391406974019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411028619066528288.post-34069324512890621142014-08-26T20:10:40.274-07:002014-08-26T20:10:40.274-07:00Wow! Keep working on those fire starting skills, before you know it you will be like Bear Grylls, starting fires with a couple of twiggs!
